Participants are carefully initiated into this program, which focuses on alertness of mind, self-control, and mental strategies to meet life challenges. Traditional Karate emphasizes the principles and applications of weaponless self-defense through the use of total body dynamics and mental discipline. Students constantly strive for technical excellence and enhancement of their character. Uniforms, belt tests, and tournaments are optional and available at additional costs.
Belt ranking system: There are 11 belt levels (kyu) before a first-degree black belt (Shodan). A new student is assigned the white belt rank (eleventh kyu). Students must fulfill certain requirements under normal practice conditions and in a test environment to achieve progressive promotions up to and including the black belt (Dan) levels. Once a student has acquired a strong foundation in the fundamentals of Karate, he or she can be promoted to the rank of first-degree black belt.
