our annual year in review
We welcomed the entire village to our doorstep by serving as the official headquarters of The Winnetka Music Festival. We transformed the winter-weather-damaged Arches Garden into a beautiful new space renamed The Gardens – in time for the wedding season! We reconstructed the Lincoln Avenue lot to our south by removing an aging frame building while enhancing the safety of our employee parking lot. We reconfigured interior space to bring our staff together, while freeing up additional space to rent. I joined the Community House in July 2017. During my time here, I have met many of you and have learned about the strong foundations on which this house is built, which include: The dedication of our Woman’s Board to its fundraising mission – from the Antiques+Modernism Show, to Breakfast with Santa, to the Wine+Beer Tasting – the Woman’s Board proves its mettle with creativity and elegance during its fundraising events and activities throughout the year. The commitment of our Board of Governors, who serve on demanding committees that support our physical building, our fiscal health, and our ever-present fundraising needs. Moreover, we are blessed with staff members who approach their duties with professionalism and a deep caring for the comfort and safety of our guests. Many of you know we cannot do this without your contributions. Although fees and rents cover our operations, much more is needed to care for an iconic (but aging) building. As a private non-profit, 35% of our budget depends on special events and your tax-deductible contributions. This Annual Report offers thanks to our supporters, and shares our compelling story to inspire others to contribute as well. Each day, every day, the Community House is filled with volunteers who help us (along with the non-profits that reside within these walls) create a community that is strong, generous, vibrant and resilient.
